Hypercar: An Audacious Undercut and Cadillac Heartbreak
The premier class was defined by shifting strategies under the scorching sun. Rather than waiting out standard stints, Toyota pulled a strategic masterstroke just 29 minutes into the race. They executed an aggressive early undercut that catapulted the sister #8 car into a temporary lead and kept their entire garage a step ahead of the pit window.
While Toyota managed the gaps, the Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA entry dominated the long middle stretches, leading for an impressive 128 laps. However, their fairytale ending crumbled in the final hours. Reflecting on the missed opportunity, Cadillac driver Louis Delétraz later shared the paddock reality:
“CADDY LOSS: @LouisDeletraz conceded that Toyota was “better” than Cadillac @JotaSport in the deciding stages of the @24hoursoflemans, as he and his co-drivers in the No. 12 car came away with a “disappointing” fourth-place finish.”
A critical yellow-flag speeding penalty further derailed Cadillac's charge, opening the door for WRT BMW to split the Toyotas and lock up a stellar second place.
